I was incredibly fortunate to spend over 18 years living and working across Mexico and Central/South America. While my primary career was in tourism, I had countless opportunities to explore various regions and countries.
Adventure travel became an integral part of my journey, as I sought out unique and unconventional travel experiences.
I suppose my wanderlust mindset has been with me since a very young age!
That urge to travel continues, with so many countries to travel and experience. Only health and fitness will prevent me from fulfilling my dreams and wishes for continueing my Adventure Travel journey.
What is the appeal of Adventure Travel?
Adventure Travel taps into people’s desire for exploration and pushing boundaries.
Adventure Travel satisfies the human need for excitement, discovery, and self-expression. Examples of why it is so appealing:
1. Thrill and Adrenaline: Adventure travel offers activities that challenge comfort zones, such as skydiving, scuba diving, or mountain climbing. The rush of adrenaline creates unforgettable experiences.
2. Connection with Nature: It often takes people to stunning landscapes—majestic mountains, serene forests, or deep oceans—allowing them to reconnect with the natural world.
3. Personal Growth: Overcoming challenges, like completing a difficult hike or navigating a new environment, builds confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment.
4. Break from Routine: Adventure travel offers a chance to escape the monotony of daily life and immerse oneself in new experiences.
5. Cultural Immersion: Many adventure trips blend action with cultural exploration, such as trekking to remote villages or engaging with indigenous communities.

My Adventure Travel Destinations
The places that leave a lasting impression are the ones that bring my fondest memories!
Mayan History and Culture – I’ve been fortunate to explore the Yucatan Peninsula extensively, venturing into Chiapas and Oaxaca as well. I’ve taken numerous road trips to discover some of the most treasured Mayan ruins, immersing myself in the vibrant flavors and rich diversity of cultures along the way.
Mexico offers some of the most incredible opportunities for adventure travel anywhere in the world. From stunning beaches and crystal-clear cenotes to winding jungle trails and majestic mountain ranges, the country is a haven for explorers. Its vibrant biodiversity also ensures encounters with an abundance of fascinating wildlife, making every journey unforgettable.
Pair this with the renowned warmth of Mexican hospitality and the rich cultural charm of towns spread across various states, and you have an unforgettable experience. My encounters with Mayan culture, in particular, have always left me in awe of its genuine friendliness and deep-rooted traditions.
Panama
For over six years, Panama was my home—a place where I embarked on countless adventures across this extraordinary country. What I cherished most was the incredible diversity found in its various regions, each offering its own unique charm and experiences.
Panama City – Around Panama City, nature thrives with an impressive array of flora and fauna, complemented by numerous hiking trails. Among these, the Camino de Cruces National Park stands out as a favorite, covering approximately 4,000 hectares of lush rainforest. This trail is not only a sanctuary for biodiversity but also holds significant historical value as a key part of the ancient trade routes connecting Panama City to the Atlantic coast.
Fauna of Panama
Panama boasts an incredibly diverse array of fauna, thanks to its unique position as a bridge between North and South America.
Panama is home to fascinating species of mammals, like the jaguar, ocelot, Baird’s tapir, and howler monkeys. With over 970 bird species, Panama is a birdwatcher’s paradise. The harpy eagle, the national bird, is a symbol of strength and one of the largest eagles in the world.
Panama’s biodiversity is truly remarkable, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.
Darién Region
The Darién region offers unique opportunities to explore its remote and captivating landscapes, including villages of the indigenous Emberá-Wounaan and Guna people. These communities proudly preserve their rich cultural traditions, which add to the region’s vibrant heritage. Some of the locals even travel to Panama City, bringing their traditional crafts and handmade goods to trade, creating a bridge between their way of life and urban markets.
My time in Darién was a deeply humbling experience, marked by a mix of trepidation and awe. While I had been cautioned about the region’s potential dangers, my own encounters painted a different picture. I found the locals to be incredibly friendly and hospitable, their warmth creating an unforgettable sense of community amidst the wild and untamed beauty of the landscape.
Peru
Having the opportunity to work in Peru has been another experience I will cherish as part of my appeal of Adventure Travel.
My first encounter with this beautiful country was in Cusco, where I traveled with my young daughter. The hospitality of the Peruvian people left a lasting impression on me, making it one of the highlights of our journey. Of course, the primary reason for our visit was to immerse ourselves in the cultural and historical wonders of the Inca civilization.
Following that trip, I embarked on a new adventure as a tour guide for a local company specializing in 4×4 Overland Expeditions. This role took me on incredible journeys across Southern and Central Peru, starting from Lima, traveling southward, and eventually venturing deep into the Andes.
The ten-night journeys captured the essence of Peru’s true wonders, featuring the stunning sand dunes of Huacachina and the mysterious Nazca Lines. From there, we ventured inland to the heart of the country, reaching the captivating region of Apurímac.
Ultimately, I found myself back in Cusco, where my journey had first begun, relishing once more the warm and welcoming Peruvian hospitality. In this richly biodiverse country, the lush tropical rainforest around Oxapampa felt like home to me. It was nature at its finest, in my opinion, and my appeal for adventure travel continues!
