UNESCO World Heritage Site
Standing tall on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza is a captivating testament to the ingenuity of the Mayan civilization. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its towering pyramids, intricate carvings, and ancient astronomical alignments, continues to fascinate visitors today. The iconic Kukulkan Pyramid, also known as El Castillo, dominates the complex, showcasing Mayan mathematical and architectural prowess.
Chichen Itza offers a glimpse into the Mayan ball game, with its well-preserved court, and whispers of human sacrifice. Explore the Temple of Warriors, adorned with detailed reliefs depicting Mayan battles, and unravel the mysteries of the Caracol, a suspected astronomical observatory. Chichen Itza is a must-visit for history buffs, archaeology enthusiasts, and anyone seeking to immerse themselves in the captivating world of the Maya.
THE HEART OF MAYAN CIVILIZATION
Back in 2003 I arrived into Playa Del Carmen from England ready to start work as a Travel Representative for a UK Travel Agency – Airtours!
The very first excursion was to travel to Chichen Itza. One of their organized tours operating within Cancun & Riviera Maya.
Moreover, the remainder of this Mayan site gave me a whole new perspective of how the whole site was constructed.
Over the years I have probably visited over half a dozen times, and still enjoy every aspect of this Mayan site.
I was very impressed with the shear size of the site, because I had only seen in pictures of Kukulkan Temple (pyramid) and the observatory.
I have tried to capture as many photographs without visitors in the shots. Also, get many different angles of the structures not normally shown on many of the tourist photographs!
If there was one particular tour I could recommend to anybody visiting Cancun, Riviera Maya, Akumal or Tulum, this would be the one!
Read about the Mayan Civilization and their struggle for survival through the generations!
One of many Mayan Archaeological sites I have visited in Mexico, and I will share some in other posts.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this photo blog!
Don’t wait to get away, book today!
